Artistic Director Designate Greg Doran, due to take over
from Michael Boyd as top dog at the RSC later this year, directs Julius Caesar, opening on the 8th
of August for 6 weeks. He relocates the Roman tragedy of power, conspiracy and
betrayal to a pan-African setting where these themes find modern resonances. What’s Peen Seen? will be heading along
to the press night this week so keep an eye out for our review!
Certainly putting the ‘World’ into World Shakespeare
Festival, the RSC go from an Iraqi love story to an African political thriller
and then take us to India, where Iqbal Khan’s Much Ado About Nothing takes place. Starring Meera Syal, this
production will play at the Noël Coward Theatre for 8 weeks from the 22nd
of September, and is definitely one for your diary.
Styles collide when the RSC’s pedigree meets the
visionary and experimental work of The Wooster Group, who have collaborated on
the Trojan play Troilus and Cressida.
Co-directors Mark Ravenhill and Elizabeth deCompte will use multi-media
performance to attempt to do justice to this epic tale of love, war and
politics, which transfers from Stratford’s Swan Theatre to the Riverside
Studios in London for a limited run from the 23rd of August.
As if having top-notch Shakespeare productions from the
RSC in the middle of London wasn’t good news enough, they are also offering a
